Description
Despite its trade name, C-16 is a glycidic ester—not a true aldehyde.
Sweet strawberry aroma chemical with fruity, honeyed and floral nuances. Adds rounded berry character and lasting sweetness to perfumes, rose accords, gourmand fragrances, soaps and air-freshener formulations.
Aldehyde C-16, commonly called Strawberry Aldehyde or Strawberry Glycidate, is a synthetic fragrance ingredient known for its sweet, rounded strawberry character. Chemically, it is ethyl methylphenylglycidate, a glycidic ester rather than a true aldehyde. Its fruity aroma carries honeyed and floral nuances, making it useful beyond straightforward berry perfumes. It can enrich rose, jasmine and violet accords, support vanilla and gourmand compositions, and add character to fruity blends. In fragrance development, it combines well with ionones, damascones, woody materials and selected aldehydes. Its persistent character makes it particularly useful where a lasting fruity impression is wanted. It is also used in soap, cosmetics and air-freshener fragrances, although every finished base requires compatibility testing.
